Officer Austin Martin

Austin grew up in Mackinaw City, Michigan. Austin is a 2008 graduate of high school where he enjoyed and excelled in high school sports, earning all district and all conference awards for both varsity basketball and baseball.

After graduation, Austin attended two years at Kirtland Community College where he earned a scholarship to play for the Kirtland Golf Team. While attending KCC he studied Criminal Justice- Law Enforcement. Austin discovered his interest for law enforcement when he worked as a Parking Officer for the Mackinaw City Police Department during the summer of 2009 and 2010. He decided to further his education in law enforcement by attending Lake Superior State University. Austin graduated from LSSU in December of 2012 earning a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Criminal Justice- Law Enforcement with a minor in Corrections. While living in Sault Ste. Marie, Austin volunteered with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department as an Auxiliary Police Officer.

Austin graduated with Class 36 of the Kirtland Regional Police Academy on May 3rd, 2013. Upon completion of the 17 week academy, Austin was honored with the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) Outstanding Performance Award.

Shortly after graduating from the academy, Austin was hired with the Mackinaw City Police Department as a Seasonal- Full Time Police Officer. Austin gained experience and knowledge from the Mackinaw City Police Department and is very excited about bringing his friendly personality and skills to serve the beautiful community of Gerrish Township.

Austin enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, playing golf and spending time with friends and family.

Certification and Training:

  • Certified Radar/LIDAR Operator
  • Certified PBT/Datamaster Operator
  • Certified with Taser/X-26 and X-2

Officer Martin serves as the Department Vehicle Maintenance Officer and is actively involved with community events as the Annual ACT NOW Golf Outing Coordinator and Gerrish Twp. Police Department’s Shop-With-A-Cop Coordinator.
