Did you know that students getting on and off school buses are protected by the law making it illegal for drivers to pass a school bus while dropping off or picking up passengers.
State law requires drivers to stop for a school bus that has its red lights flashing and stop-arm extended and you must remain stopped as long as the red lights flash and the stop-arm is out. YOU MUST STOP AT LEAST 20 FEET AWAY FROM A BUS WITH ITS RED LIGHTS FLASHING.
You may not pass when red or amber warning overhead lights are flashing. The only exception to this is when you are APPROACHING a bus from the opposite direction of travel on a road with a least two lanes in each direction.
