Emergency Response Fee Ordinance (Cost Recovery)

Read Emergency Response Fee (Cost Recovery Fee) ordinance

Legally, you must report an accident if one or more of the following factors occur:

  • Over $1,000 worth of damage to any vehicle
  • Any personal injury involved
  • In a single vehicle accident where any amount of damage is done to somebody’s personal property (i.e. mailbox, road sign, fence, etc.)

If you are a non-resident of Gerrish Township and you are at-fault in an accident, we will charge a Cost Recovery Fee (see above Ordinance). Your insurance company should pay for this fee, if you have an insurance company that does not have a fund set up for this type of fee, the billing will come to you personally. Some on-line or lower premium insurances will not cover this fee and the individual will be charged after attempting to recover the fee from the insurance company.

Please note that these fees come from a billing company located in Indiana that uses a PO Box for mailing (see sample below) and that it is a legitimate invoice from the Gerrish Township Police Department.
