Lt. Eric Muszynski was born and raised in Alpena, Michigan, and graduated from Alpena High School in 2002. In 2002, Eric was a D.A.R.E. Role Model and also received the MEAP Award. While in High School Eric played football, basketball, and baseball and excelled in all three sports at the highest levels.
After High School, Eric attended Alpena Community College to study Criminal Justice, and while there he played for the basketball team on a scholarship. Eric was on the Dean’s list in 2003 while attending Alpena Community College. Eric also was selected for the Alpena City Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy in 2003. In 2004, Eric graduated from Alpena Community College with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. In 2004, Eric received the Byron S. Egelski Scholarship.
After Alpena Community College, Eric transferred to Ferris State University to continue his studies in Criminal Justice. While attending Ferris State University Eric was a walk-on with the Ferris State University Football team. In the Summer of 2005, Eric made the Dean’s List. In his senior year, Eric went through the Ferris State University Law Enforcement Academy and graduated on May 6, 2006, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
Eric moved to Roscommon in 2006 when he was hired as a Full-Time Patrol Officer in Gerrish Township on June 13, 2006. He was promoted to Lieutenant on June 11, 2022. Eric became the third Chief of Police of Gerrish Township on April 1, 2024 when he was promoted by the Gerrish Twp. Board upon the recommendation of Chief Hill who retired on March 31, 2024.
Eric enjoys spending time with his family and friends and his hobbies include cooking, riding his motorcycle, and outdoor recreation such as hunting, fishing, camping, and biking. Eric has a great friendly personality and has made himself at home here in Gerrish Township.

Lt. Muszynski received a Department Certificate of Merit Award in 2008 in association with MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) “Salute” Program, a Department Commendation Award in 2016 and a Department Community Service Award in 2021.
Eric currently serves as a Non-Voting Advisory Member on the ACT NOW Executive Board and has co-chaired the Annual Trunk or Treat, along with Golf Outings and Department Fundraisers for several years.
